The registry raised its price by about 14 % in March 2026
From 5 March 2026 the .ai registry charges registrars 10 USD more per year: 160 USD instead of 140 USD for a two-year registration or renewal, before any retailer adds its margin.

Two years minimum, every time
A .ai is registered for at least two years, and renewals are sold in two-year terms as well, so each renewal bill covers two years at once.

On price-comparison sites, typical retail .ai renewals are roughly 80 to 110 USD a year, and some are higher. With the two-year term that is about 160 to 220 USD per renewal. Prices differ by retailer and change over time: your own renewal notice has the figure that counts for you.

What to consider
.si is a country code, open to everyone
.si is Slovenia's country-code domain, run by the national registry. You do not need to live in Slovenia or have a company there: individuals and companies from any country can register one.
Who can register a .si domain?Search engines read it as Slovenian
Google lists .ai among the country codes it treats as generic; .si is not on that list, so Google treats a .si site as targeting Slovenia. For a worldwide product that relies on broad organic search this is a real downside.

Nothing forces you to move at once. Register the .si, point it at the same site with a few DNS records and see how it works for you. Your .ai keeps working until its own registration ends.

When the .si becomes your main address, redirect the .ai to it at your host with a permanent (301) redirect, page by page where you can, so old links and search results keep working. Keep the .ai registered for as long as people still use it.

Keep your .ai addresses receiving mail while you switch. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the .si before you send from it, and tell your contacts about the new address before the old one goes.

Can I register a .si if I am not in Slovenia?
Yes. The registry's terms define a domain holder as a natural or legal person and set no residency or citizenship requirement. Individuals and companies from any country can hold a .si; you give your own address.

Do I have to register a .si for two years?

Should I give up my .ai?
Not necessarily, and not straight away. You can register a .si, point it at the same site and keep the .ai running while you see how it works for you. Decide about the .ai before its next renewal is due.
Will a .si hurt my search ranking?
It can matter. Google treats .ai as a generic ending, but .si is Slovenia's country code, which Google documents as a signal that a site targets Slovenia. If broad organic search is your main channel, weigh that. Products found through their name, links and social posts are affected much less.
Is .si connected to AI?
No. .si is Slovenia's country code and has no official connection to AI, just as .ai is Anguilla's. In AI circles “SI” is used as shorthand for superintelligence, which is why some AI builders like it.
