Who can register a .si domain?
Short answer: yes, you can. The .si registry does not require you to live in Slovenia or to have a company there. Here is what that means in practice for a founder, a lab or a solo builder outside Slovenia.

The short answer
.si is the country-code top-level domain of Slovenia. It is run by Register.si, the national registry, which is part of ARNES (the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia). You cannot buy from the registry directly: registrations go through accredited registrars and resellers.
The registry's general terms define a domain holder as a natural or legal person. They do not set a residency or citizenship requirement. Openprovider, the registrar platform we use, says the same in its `.si` overview: anyone can register, and Slovenian citizenship or residence is not needed.
Individuals and companies
Both can hold a .si domain. The difference is only in what you fill in:
- An individual gives a first and last name, a postal address, a phone number and an email address.
- A company also gives the company name, and, in our checkout, a VAT number and a company registration number. The company can be established anywhere.
The domain is registered in the holder's name. If you build for a client or for your employer, decide up front who should be the holder: the holder is the one with the rights to the domain, and changing it later is a separate procedure (see the guide on transferring or selling a `.si` domain).
Do you need a local contact or address in Slovenia?
No. Neither the registry terms we read nor Openprovider's .si page mention a local-presence requirement, and we do not ask for a Slovenian administrative contact. You give your own address, in your own country.
Some other country domains do require a local contact or an in-country address. If you are used to that, .si is simpler. The holder details you provide must still be accurate.
What you need to register
- A name. The registry requires 2 to 63 characters, using Latin letters, digits and hyphens, and no hyphen at the start or end. The registry also allows letters such as č, š and ž (allowed characters). We accept a to z, 0 to 9, hyphens and č, š, ž.
- An account with DomainSpace, and the holder details above.
- A card for payment, handled on Stripe's page. The price is shown before you pay and includes VAT.
The price today is €29 for the first year, VAT included; the price and renewal guide covers renewals and what happens at expiry. The registry allows registrations of one to five years; we currently sell one year per purchase.
What becomes public
The registry publishes holder data in its public WHOIS service. According to its terms, for a natural person only the email address is shown, while the data of an organisation is shown in full by default. Check the current rules in the general terms before you register a domain in a company's name, and use a role address such as a shared mailbox if you do not want a personal address listed.
What being able to register does not mean
- It does not make
.sian AI domain..siis Slovenia's country code and has no official connection to AI or to any AI company. Some builders like it because SI is used as shorthand for superintelligence; that is a community convention, covered in What does .si mean?. - It does not link you to the registry. DomainSpace is an independent reseller (Studio 404 d.o.o., Slovenia), not affiliated with Register.si or ARNES.
- It does not guarantee a name is free. Availability is checked live when you search.
Common questions
Do I need to be a Slovenian citizen or resident?
No. The registry's general terms define a holder as a natural or legal person without a residency requirement, and our registrar platform confirms that anyone can register.
Can a company outside Slovenia register a .si domain?
Yes. Enter the company name, its address and, in our checkout, its VAT and registration numbers.
Do I need a Slovenian address or administrative contact?
Not according to the sources we checked. You provide your own contact details.
Can I register a name with č, š or ž?
Yes. The registry allows them, and we accept a to z, digits, hyphens and č, š, ž.
Ready to look for a name?
Search for a .si name. If it is free, registering takes a few steps and the price is shown upfront.
Tip: you can check up to 10 names at once, separated by spaces, commas or new lines.
